Public Spaces

• Add at least 30 acres of new public space over the next 10 years (Appendix II, Land Acquisition; Appendix II, Level of Service; Appendix III, Design Guidelines).

• Utilize Level of Service analysis to manage public space assets efficiently (Appendix II, Level of Service; Appendix III, Dog Parks and Dog Runs).

• Ensure access to spaces designed for casual use and connection with nature.

• Explore opportunities to expand or add recreational facilities.

• Make better use of existing public spaces through system-wide planning and investments.

• Provide more support services and amenities for public space users.

• Strive for universal access.

• Ensure and enhance access to the Potomac River and other waterways, while improving the tree canopy, native vegetation and other natural resources along them (Appendix II, Land Acquisition).

• Strive for a more attractive and sustainable public space system.

• Enhance spaces with temporary uses and “pop-up” programming.
